nothing to much to blog about, so entry was getting lesser and lesser everyday. But recently got myself very enthsiastic on the Cannes award, well it got me glue to the monitor to check the results once they are being announced. So far it was rather disappointing for SG's creative shops as most of the big guns didn't make too big of an impact comapred to last year. Though ASIA did really make ourself noticed as a whole, with 3 Malaysia Hotshops(JWT MALAYSIA, SAATCHI&SAATCHI MALYASIA as well as ARC MALAYSIA) gunning 3 gold lions each respectively not to mention silver and bronze lions, well malaysia trully rawked this years Cannes. Well amongst the few that they have won, I was rather impress with JWT MALAYSIA's ad for kleenex well it was a well done point of purchase for outdoor, the rest were just so so in my opinion.
Coming back to my homeland SG we won a total of 6 bronze, so far 10AM communication is the only one that is doing rather well. Garning a PROMO LION with its red bull puzzle promo item which looked really idea, well it rawks. Next comes the outdoor awards we could only achieve bronze which 2 for O&M, 1 for Leo Burnett and 1 for SAATCHI & SAATCHI. Let me elaborate more on the ads that won a bronze Lion well in my opinion all except for O&M ads were trully metaphor advertising which I basically understand it as the traditional ones who don't give shit to the audience, as for the other two BIC pens by Leo Burnett and LEGO by Saatchi they are more of the scammy sort of ads, less text more visual inscript. But well all the ads were really amazing, though they are all scammies they do make their point and they are trully stimulating which " I LIKE " hahaha......
Well looking forward to SG in tomorrow's reasult as the press category will be announced, well hope SG's agency will win some GOLD LION back. Out of the 63 shortlist in the PRESS category yet to be awarded a lion's agency's are MCcan Ericksson SG whom they send 2 corrsepondence to the festival itself (Ivan Hady Wibowo Head of Art & Craig Rosenthal Associate Creative Director), JWT Singapore, Bates Singapore, M&C Saatchi and DDB. Well all this are the biggest name in the S'pore creative hotshop's list. Well I have a strong feeling 1 agency or maybe 2 will be awarded a GOLD lion for their PRESS work. My bets are O&M's East Timor illustration ad and 1 of the economist ad(which i never seem to understand what it means) but nonetheless the art direction are fantastic, next would be SAATCHI&SAATCHI SG's Yamaha Bikes and also the last one which might be a silver at the least the MILO bars which is also by O&M(the same ad won a silver at the one show) would be great to see it win it one more time.
Well will corrsepond and blog more on the results for the PRESS category tomorrow. Cause we've got tons of SG's agency's work been shortlisted, which I think we would stand a high chance of getting the LIONS.
But overall what i deduce like I said in a previous entry Thailand has yet to make an impact on the world when it comes to print. Judging from all the big award shows, results has proven through D&AD, ONE SHOW & CANNES, SG is still a dominant force, in my opiinion if there is a force not to reckon with its definetly not THAILAND whom SG should be afraid but our neighbour MALAYSIA who has really shocken myself as well as I am sure all of the SG's ad creatives with its wonderful showing. Cheers to them!!!
Well going over to the International scene, well Australia had it all by winning the grand prix for DIRECT, with their LYNX ad. Next to mention is DROG5 by ex publicis worldwide CD David Droga the legend with its first win at cannes for Marc Ecko the street label winning a silver and a bronze with the same ad in the same category. Outdoor is really jam pack with lots of really cool work, JWT malaysia's kleenex slit campagin rawks, been enjoying what their CD Edwin Leong's team being doing cool work, I am sure Mr.Tay would be happy to see his malaysia's shop achieve. Next comes this ad by an australian agenyc for chupa chips the lollipop well nice colors and art direction no wonder all 3 work were featured nice job done. Finally an ad for Sony Playstaion from a south amercian agency haha...it was really cool showing a soilder in a battlefield bproning on the ground and looking at his necklace with a lady in a position of playing a game console, a follow up of the same campagin was a boxer before a mathc praying to a photo in a frame same thing a person playing a game console.....haha I got the idea instanly on what it was trying to relay. A ambient ad by JUNG VON MATT which I think was a germany creative shop came up with the mini ad, well it certianlly caught attention and itself a cult brand had the idea send across to each and everyone.....
What surprise me this time round is that, WEIDEN + KENNEDY and Crispin andd Bogusky did not had any ads winning anything or shortlisted...this makes me wonder why?
Well whatever it is I am looking forward to seeing the results for the PRESS category.......at CANNES
And i trully hope Argentina beat Netherlands.....and crush them......MESSIE MESSIE! Till tomorrow.
